Kabokweni CPF gives back to the community

KABOKWENI – The local Community Policing Forum (CPF) reached out to the community as part of their 67 minutes for Mandela when they cleaned two houses, did some much-needed gardening and surprised elders with cake.
CPF members and the local community also had pots steaming over fires as food was being prepared. Helpful and skilled ladies cut up chicken pieces, tripe and other meats as they attempted to feed the multitudes.
“We are helping the community today with food, bedding and cleaning among other things. This event took two weeks to organise and we are happy that everything is going well,” said Tsidi Mashile, CPF of KaBokweni SAPS.
“This is something that Tata Madiba would have wanted – to serve the community and to help the helpless,” she added.
While CPF members cooked meat and cut grass, the beneficiaries of the day arrived one by one to enjoy the numerous acts of goodwill on offer on the day. These beneficiaries included 75-year-old Emma Mokoena of the Ermelo Trust and 67-year-old Maria Sithole, both smiling but also looking a little overwhelmed.
According to Elijah Msibi, chairman of the CPF, it was a special day as it marked the start of a community project that would only blossom and spread to more areas in KaBokweni in the future.
“We are handing out food parcels to 11 needy elderly people, while also surprising them with cake.”
CPF also gave Make Motha and Sipho Mthimkhulu’s houses a spring clean and presented gifts to Nompumelelo Mahlangu (30).
Mahlangu received a double bed, a window frame and two bags of cement for her house, among others.
“She has no one to support her and she is unemployed therefor we are helping her to repair her RDP house,” said Msibi.
