Penryn paints heavenly spectacle
Each group portrayed a different colour and theme in their song and dance which delighted the crowd.
MBOMBELA – Hundreds of gleefully smiling faces were decked out in a rainbow of colour during the Penryn College foundation phase annual concert last week.
The school proudly presented, The Heavenly Painter, a well-choreographed performance that focused on creation in all its wonderful hues. Grades one to three participated in this spectacle, each representing six different ones on the lead painter’s palette.
The concert opened with the narrators telling the sad story of how the world lacked colour and happiness, until the Heavenly Painter decided to use a brush and install a variety of hues into the landscape.
Suddenly there was a number of adorable little children in bright orange, radiant red, deep blue, sunflower yellow and emerald green.
Each group portrayed a different colour and theme in their song and dance which delighted the crowd. The yellow group had the audience singing along to every word of the popular “Yellow Submarine” as the children exited the stage complete with a submarine.
The red group also had the audience entranced with their version of the hit song “99 Red Balloons”. The grade one girls, complete with red balloons, sang their hearts out and ultimately released the balloons into the air to loud applause.
The two evening performances were thoroughly enjoyed by the children and audience alike as many familiar songs like “Blue Suede Shoes”were included in this festive and important event on the school’s calendar.
After painting the canvas with a different colour, the painter soon realised that focusing on one of them would never be enough to create a happy world. Only after combining all the colours would there be heavenly harmony.
After all the hues had blended together on stage the painter exclaimed a clear message to the audience of families and friends. “I can see a rainbow of colours,” she shouted at the top of her voice.
The children from all the participating classes and grades gave a memorable performance that matched the colourful decor.
