Human trafficking trial postponed
Closing arguments to resume on November 21.
GRASKOP – the human trafficking case against two Rhenosterhoek-residents was postponed to November 21 2014 in the Graskop Magistrates’ Court today.
Mr Lloyd Mabuza (60) and co-accused Ms Violet Chauke (20) are charged with rape and human trafficking for sexual purposes.
They allegedly held five girls captive for four years after luring them into captivity with promises of a better life and educational opportunities.
According to witnesses’ testimonies, the girls were half dressed, starved and living in appalling conditions while in captivity with the accused. Witness testimonies were led during the state’s cross-examination, conducted by Adv Isabet Erwee yesterday. The testimonies had witnesses identifying items that were in the house of the accused.
The matter was postponed as the legal representative for Mr Mabuza could not be present today.
The closing arguments and verdict will be given on November 21 2014. Read more here: Woman tells of role in finding alleged trafficking victims
