New Volvo XC90 has all the guests swooning

I have never seen Auto Baltic (Volvo) in Mbombela’s showroom looking so elegant and crowded - curtains from ceiling to floor, candlelight - and, dare I say, romantic and mysterious? But then, they were not launching just another Volvo.

This was the new XC90 – a car which has created quite a stir from its conception and which, when the local guys talk about it, raises the emotional adrenaline just a tad.

The guests, and quite a large crowd of them, were treated to an awesome fire-dancing display on the lawn in front of the dealership presented by the Phoenix group.  Just after entering the dealership and, what now looked more like the reception area of a concert hall, Natasha C added more mood and sultriness with Avicii’s song “Feeling Good” creating expectancy for what the evening was about to offer.
After some “words of Volvo” dealer principal Christo Leeuwner introduced short video clips on this very exiting car and then it literally burst though the video screen into the showroom.

Guests were all over the XC in no time – staring and touching – oohing and aahing and some were probably reaching for a sales consultant ready to sign an offer to purchase. The new XC is a Scandinavian blue blood – extremely clean, but still very striking in its design. Within its seeming simplistic appearance there is a heart which personifies new invisible technology and safety features that will blow your mind – the reason why it has, since the inception of the concept, generated such awe.

This is a car which synchronises superbly with Volvo’s intention to build Volvos that will protect its passengers from serious injuries or even death in case of an accident – any accident. With its T8 (will be available as from 2016) twin-engine technology offering a whopping 300kW and 640Nm with only 49g CO2/km, the XC90 has earned the right to claim being the cleanest premium SUV available at present.

For now though, the T5 and D5 derivatives offer nonetheless spectacular driving. This is an award-winning car by any standard so you better go test-drive it, because the demand for it is already proving to be somewhat demanding – kapish!
