“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”

With this idea in mind, Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine (DCM) awarded trophies and laptops to the best-achieving pupils, educators and schools in the Ngwaabe Circuit. The matric awards ceremony was held at Tubatse Chrome Club on May 21. The event was attended by the mine representatives, officials of the Limpopo Department of Education, principals of Ngwaabe Circuit, school management teams, officials of the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) and representatives of teachers unions. The attendees were all clad in red jackets donated by the mine. The big winner on the day was Kamogelo Tau of Seokgome Secondary School, who took home the award of the top learner in the circuit. Speaking on behalf of DCM, Thabo Maluleke applauded the learners who did excellently in the 2020 matric results. “We will like to applaud the hard work in the Ngwaabe Circuit. 2020 was a tough year with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. The pupils we are honouring here made a collective effort and decision to study hard, regardless of the challenges they faced.” Maluleke said DCM has programmes lined up to improve education in the circuit.

“We will continue partnering with the circuit and try to improve the matric results and the standard of education for the better. Our aim is to see Ngwaabe being among the top circuits in Limpopo.”
Comparing the results in previous years, circuit manager Harry Dinkwenyane urged the principals and educators to improve. “We are one of those circuits that underachieved. Let’s honour those who have excelled. Let’s also resonate with what Seokgome has done and the teachers who were awarded today.”
FTLM’s acting mayor, Cllr Maria Mashego, encouraged local students to work hard. “Please do not disappoint us by becoming dropouts at universities. We have companies like DCM that are supportive.
Please continue working hard and you will be rewarded.” The event was concluded with veteran educator and former staff member at Ngwaabe Circuit, MW Komane, being anded a laptop for his dedication to the circuit.
