WATCH: Stunning new Range Rover unveiled in South Africa

Fifth generation Range Rover will start at a price of R2.86-million and is expected on South African showfloors by mid-year.


The highly-anticipated fifth generation of the Land Rover Range Rover was unveiled at a glitzy event in Johannesburg on Wednesday, but South African buyers will have to wait a little bit longer to get their hands on one.

The new Range Rover is only expected to be available locally from the middle of 2022, albeit no official date has been set. What Jaguar Land Rover did confirm, is the local line-up which will consist of 19 models, and that the range will start at a price of R2.86-million.

The new Range Rover will be available in HSE, Autobiography and FIrst Edition trim, with the latter that will only be available in the first year of production. Customers will also have a choice of four, five or seven-seat configurations along with standard or long wheelbase body options.

Powertrain options include six-cylinder, eight-cylinder and plug-in hybrid offerings. An all-electric model is set to join the range in 2024.

P530 derivates will be the first Land Rovers powered by a new 4.4-litre V8 engine made by BMW. These bi-turbo petrol mills produce 390 kW of power and 750 Nm of torque. Land Rover claims that it will reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 4.6 seconds with a top whack of 250 km/h.

D350 models will feature a 3.0-litre straight-six turbodiesel powertrain producing 257kW/700Nm. It will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.

The extended range P510e plug-in hybrid combines a 375 kW six-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine with a 38.2-kWh lithium-ion battery and 105-kW electric motor. It is claimed to have an electric range of 113 km and reach 100 km/h from s standstill in 5.6 seconds.

The new Range Rover will come with Land Rovers’s standard five-year/100 000 km Land Rover Care Warranty and Maintenance Plans.
