Chrome grille and obvious inclusion of two rear doors differentiates the five-door Jimny from the three-door on the outside.
With the emergence of pricing earlier this month, Suzuki Auto South Africa has officially disclosed not only stickers, but also specification for the new five-door Jimny.
Now available after making its public debut at the Kyalami Festival of Motoring two months ago, the five-door Jimny rides on a stretched version of the three-door’s body-on-frame platform which, in South African spec, measures both 340 mm longer in overall length and wheelbase.
Translating into a length of 3 965 mm, wheelbase of 2 590 mm and unchanged width of 1 645 mm with the claimed height of 1 720 mm also being identical to the three-door, the five-door tips the scales at 105 kg heavier while retaining the AllGrip four-wheel-drive system and 210 mm of ground clearance.

Besides its size, the five-door Jimny boasts a strengthened chassis, a longer propeller shaft, ventilated front disc brakes, increased springs for the front suspension coils, improved shock absorbers and a larger diameter stabiliser bar.
Compared to its sibling, the five-door’s off-road dimensions have also been altered, with the breakover angle decreasing from 28 to 24-degrees, the departure from 49 to 47-degrees and the approach from 37 to 36-degrees.
In addition to rear passenger legroom, boot space has increased dramatically from 85-litres to 211-litres with the rear seats up, and from 377-litres to a substantial 1 113-litres with the 60/40 split rear back folded down.
Differentiated from its sibling by means of a chrome surrounds around the grille vents and projector-type LED headlights with washers on the top-spec GLX only, the biggest revisions have taken place inside with the fitting of items not available on the three-door regardless of trim level.
On the GL, which opens the range up, the tech in question comprises the same seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system as the Baleno, rear parking sensors with a reverse camera and a 12-volt power socket in the rear.
Rolled-out on the Baleno in India back in February, the infotainment system sees the inclusion of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto until now not available on the step-up from the Swift.
Taking prominence, the GLX not only gets the mentioned LEDs, but also six airbags versus the GL and three-door GLX’s two, a revised digital instrument cluster display, dual-zone climate control and a brand-new nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, also with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Carried over from the three-door, the five-door Jimny GL’s array of features consist of all-around electric windows, a urethane steering wheel with volume controls, ABS and EBD, electric mirrors, Hill Hold Assist, Electronic Stability Programme and 15-inch alloy wheels.
Building on these, the GLX receives cruise control, a leather-covered steering wheel, front fog lamps and folding electric mirrors.
Up front, the five-door’s method of propulsion has stayed as is with output of 75kW/130Nm from the normally aspirated 1.5 K15B petrol engine.
The standard transmission is a five-speed manual with only the GLX being privy to the four-speed automatic as an option.
On the colour side, six hues have been carried over from the three-door Jimny; Jungle Green, Arctic White Pearl, Bluish Black Pearl, Silky Silver Metallic and two dual-tone options, Chiffon Ivory and Kinetic Yellow, both contrasted by a black roof.
New, and reserved exclusively for the five-door, is Granite Grey Metallic, Celestial Blue Pearl and Sizzling Red Metallic headed by black roof.
A line-up spanning three derivatives, which takes the South African market Jimny count to seven, each of the five-door’s sticker prices include a five-year/200 000 km warranty as well as a four-year/60 000 km service plan.
