A 30-year-old man has been arrested after he shot a woman dead outside a popular entertainment lounge in Sunnyside, Pretoria.

The man was arrested on Sunday, after initially fleeing the scene.

Police conducted raids in several possible hiding spots, but the suspect resorted to handing himself over at the Sunnyside police station.

“The alleged murder weapon, a handgun with a filed-off serial number, and ammunition were seized during the arrest. The suspect will be charged with murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”

He would be appearing before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.

The man is understood to have shot the woman after they had an argument. She died of gunshot injuries to her head and was declared dead on the scene.

Unconfirmed reports on social media have stated that the woman was killed for not agreeing to leave with the man and his friends after he had bought her drinks at Ayepyep Lounge.

Meanwhile, the owner of Ayepyep, DJ Sumbody, has denied that the incident occurred on his premises. He tweeted that it happened on the same street on which his venue is located and that Ayepyep was closed at the time of the shooting.

He added that the girl was shot inside a Mercedes-Benz Viano.
