Man wanted for fraud exceeding R20m

Powell operates around casinos, horseracing tracks and off-course bookmakers.


Police are on the lookout for a man who is being sought on multiple charges of fraud exceeding R20 million.

David Desmond Edward Powell also has a 2013 house break-in and theft case against him with the Kempton police, Kempton Express reported.

A warrant of arrest has been issued for Powell, who is being investigated by the Specialised Commercial Crime Unit of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) and IRS Forensic Investigations.

Powell operates around casinos, horseracing tracks and off-course bookmakers.

He was most recently staying in the south of Johannesburg and has been spotted at shopping centres in the area, including Southgate Mall.

He has several cases opened against him in various areas, including the Kempton Park SAPS, Boschkop, Brooklyn, Ogies and the Honeydew SAPS.
