Cyril is damned –no matter what

President Cyril Ramaphosa should probably pay attention to the American carnival attraction called the “Shooting Gallery”, because there’s going to be one in the White House this week… and he is going to be the target.

After what happened to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky – who, despite being a so-called friend of the United States, was set upon by a rabid President Donald Trump – the forecast does not look good for Ramaphosa.

Rock and a hard place for Cyril Ramaphosa

It seems like that chief among the pitbulls who will be let loose on the South African head of state, Elon Musk will attempt to braai him in front of the world’s media over the supposed persecution of white people.

Nothing that Ramaphosa can say about the fiction of a white genocide is likely to make any impact on Trump and his henchmen.

Also, given that Trump’s policy is racist in its nature – why did he give white South Africans refugee status while denying it to thousands of black and brown people who qualify? – it is highly unlikely that Ramaphosa will be accorded anything like the respect shown recently by Trump to newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The leader from Ottawa was able to say to Trump that Canada is “not for sale”.

Baas Donald will unlikely give the same opportunity to Ramaphosa.

Sadly, Ramaphosa is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. If he kowtows to Trump’s baasskap, he will lose credibility with black people at home.

If he tries to stand up to him, though, many white people will whine, yet again, about persecution. All the while, the right-wingers who started the process – AfriForum and others – have no intention of fleeing SA.

Why would they? They want a volkstaat and they’re going to try to use American muscle to get it. We shouldn’t pretend otherwise.
