ANC likens DA to ‘schoolyard bully’ after being blocked on Twitter

The ANC has accused the DA of acting like 'a schoolyard bully who stops a soccer game and walks off with his ball when things don't go his way'.

The ANC in the Western Cape was furious after realising that they were blocked from viewing the Democratic Alliance’s tweets.

ANC Western Cape secretary Faiez Jacobs said in a statement released on Wednesday that the DA’s actions were a “blatant and disgraceful display of censorship” and likened the party to a “schoolyard bully”.

“We are not surprised by the DA’s action because in the past week we engaged the DA to challenge the propaganda and bile it was spewing out on Twitter. We also made it a point to explore every DA lie as such.

“Clearly we hurt the DA, which enjoys making spurious claims, but acts like a schoolyard bully who stops a soccer game and walks off with his ball when things don’t go his way,” said Jacobs.

“We reject this censorship. I challenge DA leader Mmusi Maimane to lift this blocking. If he doesn’t, his talk about engaging in public discourse and interaction is just hot air. Come on Maimane, be the liberal that you claim to be. Or is this censorship just another example of how you are a front for the conservative faction of your party?” said Jacobs.

He further claimed there were bots that were attacking the ANC on social media.

“If one were to browse through the ANC Western Cape Twitter account, one would immediately be aware that this is not a malicious or fake account. We value public engagement.”

The DA then seemed to have realised its mistake and unblocked the ANC.
