One dead, another injured as Gqeberha robbers take cellphone and cash

The suspects reportedly stabbed both men after demanding they hand over cash and cellphones.


Police in Gqeberha are on the hunt for two suspects allegedly involved in a murder and attempted murder in Walmer township on Thursday morning.

Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said two men, both aged 30, arrived home at Phela Khulu Street at around 1.55am when they were confronted by two suspects armed with knives. After demanding cash and cellphones, the suspects allegedly stabbed both men.

One victim died on the scene after he was stabbed in the upper body. The other victim sustained multiple stab wounds and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The suspects fled with one cellphone and cash.

A case of murder and attempted murder is under investigation.

Police are appealing to anyone who can provide any information relating to the whereabouts of the suspects to contact Saps Walmer, Lieutenant-Colonel Melody Oranje on 082-441-8505, Crime Stop on 08600-10111 or their nearest police station. All information is confidential and callers may remain anonymous.
