Police arrest four suspects for 2019 murder of ANC councillors

The four suspects were arrested for the 2019 murder of two ANC councillors.


Police in Limpopo arrested four suspects on Tuesday in connection to the murder of two Mogalakwena ANC councillors.

The suspects were arrested at different locations in Sekgakgapheng, Moshate, Tshamahansi and Mokopane town.

They are expected to appear at the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of murder and unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.

According to the police statement the suspects are believed to be aged between  40 and 51.

Police allege the suspects are responsible for the slaying of Mogalakwena ANC councillors, Valtyne Kekana, 54 and Ralph Kanyane, 32.

The two were assassinated by a gunman in Mokopane town on 23 July 2019.

They were seated in a car when a gunman allegedly approached the car and started firing shots.

“They both died at the scene. The assailant then fled on foot after the incident,” read the statement.

An organised crime detention team led by Deputy Provincial Commissioner General Samuel Manala investigated the murder which led to the arrest.

Further investigation are underway.
