Limpopo police offers R250K reward for information on murder of Venda taxi owner

This reward follows three other rewards of up to R250,000 which were recently issued for each of the murders.

In a statement, police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe said the provincial police had extended their efforts by offering an additional reward into the spate of murder incidents in Thohoyandou, reports Polokwane Review.

“The police are offering a R250,000 monetary reward for the arrest and subsequent conviction of the suspects responsible for the 2017 murder of Tshishonga Peter Nthambeleni, 49, a taxi owner at Manini village outside Thohoyandou.”

According to police reports, Nthambeleni, who was a taxi owner and secretary of the Long Distance Taxi Association in Venda, was shot and killed by three unknown suspects while with his friends at a local car wash in Manini village, outside Thohoyandou, on August 9 2017.

Ngoepe explained that this reward followed three other rewards of up to R250,000, which were recently issued for each of the murders that were committed in the same cluster. The amount is calculated up to R1 million for any information that can lead to the arrest and subsequent conviction of the suspects responsible for these serious crimes.

The provincial commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has since established a special task team which is rolling out vigorous investigations into all four cases until people responsible are brought to book.

The motive behind this incident is not yet known at this stage. Police have urged anyone with information that can help the police to arrest the suspect(s) involved in this murder to contact Brigadier James Espach at 082 576 0744. Alternatively, they can also contact the 24-hour Crime Stop number on 08600 10111, or the Crime Line SMS on 32211.

The information received will always be under high confidentiality, Ngoepe assured.
