Protest action expected in Cosmo City today

Protest action is currently underway in Cosmo City, reports Randburg Sun.

According to information received, a protest march has been approved and is expected to take place from the Itsoseng service road to Malibongwe Drive, and then head to South Africa Boulevard.

 

The protest is scheduled to start at 9am, and will end at 12.30pm.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes if travelling to Kya Sands or going to Lanseria, past Cosmo City. Malibongwe Drive will also likely be affected.

Lanseria Airport has also cautioned motorists and travelers to allow for extra travel time.

Twitter users have also indicated that Cosmo City Mall is closed, and that security guards do not feel safe.Protesters are allegedly burning tyres and throwing stones.

The reason for the protest march is not yet clear, but some messages on social media indicate that the protesters feel uncertain about their ward and will be handing over a memorandum.
