The first ever Pedal for Poverty event held at Friesland Melkery on Saturday 3 September saw mountain bikers take on the course all in the name of charity.
Hashtag Events Company hosted the event where riders, in pairs and groups, took turns to pedal their way towards a good cause. Funds were raised for students who cannot afford a quality education.
The main goal of the event that the NWU Pukke’s Tourism Honours students organised, was to raise funds as part of one of their projects for the year.
According to the CEO of Hashtag Events Company, Chireé Jacobs, the event did not draw as many competitors as they had expected but still made a difference in the lives of less fortunate students.
“We are very grateful for everyone’s support. The community has been fantastic in their support for this event and we thank the Lord for that,” she said.
