Roevan ready to rumble at EFC 67

Potchefstroom’s first EFC contracted athlete, Roevan de Beer is ready for his third professional fight at EFC 67 at Carnival City on Saturday, 10 March.

Potchefstroom’s first EFC contracted athlete, Roevan de Beer is ready for his third professional fight at EFC 67 at Carnival City on Saturday, 10 March.
According to De Beer, he has never had such a good training camp as the one he is finishing up this week. ‘I was able to train harder and my diet has been better than at previous camps,’ he said.
Having established his own gym in the city has made things much easier for the flyweight fighter. ‘I have a place to train whenever I need to. My training partners, Charl Bouwman, Francois Meyer and Tiaan Swart have played a huge role in helping me prepare,’ he added.

Across from him, in the hexagon, is the familiar face of T.C. Khusu, a fighter De Beer has faced as an amateur. ‘I lost that fight on points. It was tough, especially after I broke my foot in the early stages of the first round. We’ll have to wait and see if that had anything to do with the outcome of the fight,’ he said, although confidence in his camp is high.

‘I think Roevan’s counterpunching is better, his movement is better, on the ground he is much better, technically he is better and he is definitely much fitter than T.C.,’ said his training partner, Charl Bouwman.
Roevan acknowledges that he might have an ace or two up his sleeve for the upcoming bout after travelling to New York to train with Vlad Koulikov. According to him, this is someone whom he has held in high regard for a long time. ‘The amount of technique I have learnt from him feels like two-years’ worth. He holds the rank of master of sport in Sambo, a black belt in Judo and a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Training with him, it feels like I am a step above many other athletes,’ said Roevan.
The prelim’ fights will be streamed on the EFC Facebook page at 17:30 while the main events can be seen live on SABC 3 at 21:30.
