NWU need roaring home crowd support this weekend

“We have not had the results we wanted and we must make better use of our chances this weekend. We will definitely need to win at least two out of the three remaining matches,” - NWU coach, Shuan Hulley

The NWU Varsity Hockey side will need to be on top form this weekend when the tournament heads to Potch this Friday. Luckily they have home support this weekend to energise and motivate them towards a probable semi-final spot.

The first big encounter is when they take on Maties in a North vs South contest this Friday at the NWU Astroturf.

Maties, who are currently on top of the log, have once again shown their pedigree in this tournament with an undefeated record. Players like Paige Phillips, Lara Stevens and Stephanie Botha will be a force to be reckoned with and the NWU will need to put their best stick forward in this crunch encounter.

NWU’s stars like Courtney du Preez, Mia Barnard and Saré Laubscher will have to be at their very best.

NWU next takes on UCT on Saturday, where the race for playoff places will be heated.
Simply put, the NWU must win this game and the one against UJ to progress. Anything less will be seen as a step backwards after their semi-final defeat in 2017. With a roaring crowd behind them, the NWU women will not want to disappoint.
“We have not had the results we wanted and we must make better use of our chances this weekend. We will definitely need to win at least two out of the three remaining matches,” said NWU coach, Shaun Hulley.
