Dragons need to put best foot forward in final two 4-Day Series matches

The North-West Dragons will face the Dolphins next as they aim for a top two spot in CSA 4-Day Challenge.

Four-day cricket will be the first priority the North-West Dragons as they plan for their next home fixture against the Dolphins from 31 January-3 February at the J.B. Marks Oval in Potchefstroom.

The Dragons are currently in second place on the log with 84.36 points to their name. A win will solidify their chances of a guaranteed top two finish, with only one league game left away to Boland from 9-12 February.

The Dragons have had a solid campaign thus far, with their only blip being an innings defeat against the Warriors at home in December last year.

Previously the had held the top spot on the log after impressive victories away against the Lions by 8 wickets, the KZN-Inland Tuskers by 8 wickets and a 196-run win at home against the Titans.

Competition for the top two spots will be tough heading into the penultimate round of fixtures.

The Lions are third with 82.29 points, Boland are fourth on 81.44 points, with the Dolphins in fifth on 78.56 points. All these teams are still in the running for a top two finish.

The North-West Dragons have a golden opportunity to reach the final for the first time since the new division system was introduced in the 2019/20 season

The Warriors top the log on 92.4 points. It was the Warriors who systematically destroyed the Dragons’ batting line-up at the J.B. Marks Oval, thanks to the top wicket-taker of the 4-Day series, Matthew Boast. He took 7-56 in the match as the Dragons were bowled out for 160 in the first innings and 85 in the second.

Rubin Hermann (372 runs), Meeka-eel Prince (379) and Dian Forrester (339) has been the top run-scorers for the Dragons this season.

Their bowling attack has not had a single standout performer, but rather a collective bowling effort where everyone picks up wickets at regular intervals.

Alfred Mothoa with 15 wickets at an average of 26 and Ruan de Swardt with 14 wickets at an average of 21, has been the most impressive for the men from Potch.
