Top athletics talent at Marius Lengton rally

Host school Tom Naudé THS proudly won a total of 61 medals which included 27 gold, 13 silver and 21 bronze.

POLOKWANE – Tom Naudé THS hosted 13 schools during the 36th Marius Lengton memorial rally on Saturday, as family and friends gathered to support their athletes.

The host, Hoërskool Merensky, PHS, Nylstroom, Louis Trichardt, Northern Academy, PEPPS, Nkwankowa Athletic Club, Warmbad, Stanford Lake College, Piet Potgieter, Curro and Akademie Reformia atletes participated in javelin, discus, shot put, high jump, running, hurdles and long jump under various age groups.

Tommies head of sport Kobus de Meyer told Review that all the athletes performed brilliantly.

Tommies proudly won a total of 61 medals which included 27 gold, 13 silver and 21 bronze.

“Our boys finished first overall and we’re very proud of every single one of them, the teachers and learners who helped make this day possible. We as coaches are looking forward to a promising athletics season next year,” he said.

De Meyer said the following athletes deserve a special mention:

• Tiaan Haasbroek (u/15) who won with a score of 853 in the 100m hurdles, and the 300m hurdles with a score of 740.

• Nashwin Nagel won the u/14 boys high jump with a score of 810.

• Mahlatse Kekana won the u/15 boys 1 500m with the highest score of 730.

• Nthati Matabane won the u/17 boys 200m with a score of 789 and the 400m with a score of 765.

• Amo Nkanyane won the u/16 boys 400m with a score of 737.

• Tricia Malungane was first place in the 100m for girls u/15 with a score of 763 and scored the highest in the girls long jump with a score of 680.

• JC Holtzhausen won the boys u/15 shotput with a score of 736.

• Fortune Sehlabane won the u/16 boys 200m with a score of 760 and also won the 100m with a score of 740.

Other learners who stood out were Hasane Seboko from Bela-Bela who scored the highest in the u/14 boys long jump with a score of 826, followed by John-Ross Donovon from PHS who scored the highest in the boys u/16 high jump with a score of 820 and Musthafa Mokwena from Bela-Bela who won the u/17 boys 110 hurdles with a score of 813.

“We would like to congratulate all the athletes who took part in the event. We could see how prepared and dedicated you all were on that field. Keep up the good work.”
