PCS learners reflect on national athletics meet experience

Tsentle Magana and Ntseba Nkoana were part of the Limpopo team which comprised top young athletes from various primary schools in various districts of the province.

POLOKWANE – Two budding athletes from Pietersburg Comprehensive School, Tsentle Magana and Ntseba Nkoana say they will cherish the experience they gained at the South African Primary School Athletics meeting recently held at the University of Limpopo’s Oscar Mpetha Stadium.

The two Gr 7 learners were part of the Limpopo team which comprised top young athletes from various primary schools in various districts of the province.

Tsentle came fourth in the 100m and 75m hurdles.

“It was my first time participating at the national event representing my province and my school. I learned a lot from athletes from other provinces. They are so competitive and fit. I will be going to high school next year and I am hoping to be part of the provincial team because I want to win a medal. It is possible I just have to work hard.”

Her fellow teammate, Ntseba said she is happy to have learnt from other athletes.

“It was a competition but I was able to make friends and ask them about their training regimes and plans. The camaraderie among athletes was marvelous to watch. I came eighth in both the 200m and 400m events but I learned valuable lessons. It was my first national event and the nerves got the better of me. I must just train hard and prepare myself mentally for such events. I am also going to high school next year and I still continue with athletics and my aim is to be part of the provincial team again and make up for my losses.”
