Two suspects arrested, homemade gun and ammunition recovered near Clairwood

It is alleged that the two suspects aged 28 and 35 are behind the spate of robberies taking place in the Jacobs industrial area.

THE two suspects arrested for unlawful possession of a homemade firearm and ammunition in the Jacobs industrial area are expected to appear in court soon.

The arrest was made during routine patrols conducted by the metro police street crime unit on Wednesday morning (March 19).

The police recovered a homemade firearm, two live rounds, three spent rounds, and other items during their routine operation in Teakwood Road, Jacobs, around 09:45.

It is alleged that the pair aged 28 and 35 is behind a string of robberies taking place in the Jacobs industrial area.

Sergeant Sduduzo Makhaye for Brighton Beach Police Station said the suspects are detained at the police cells waiting for their court appearance. The suspects have been charged for possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of live ammunition.

The recovered items include:
  • Cellphone
  • Homemade gun
  • Three spent cartridges
  • Holster
  • Live rounds
  • Knife
  • Undisclosed amount of cash.
