Captain Carmen Rhynes, eThekwini District spokesperson, said the victim was approached by four unknown men who opened fire on the victim before driving off towards South Coast Road.

“Metro police spotted the vehicle as it skipped a red robot and a chase ensued. The four suspects eventually abandoned the Ford Ranger in South Coast Road and ran away. They then jumped into a red Etios with unknown registration and managed to escape arrest. However, a R5 rifle, two R5 magazines and a 9mm magazine was found left behind in the abandoned Ford Ranger,” said Rhynes.

Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, said when they arrived on scene they found the man still in the vehicle which was riddled with bullet holes.

“Paramedics assessed the man who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body. The man succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on the scene,” said Jamieson.

The Montclair police are calling on anyone with information on the suspects to please come forward.
