Mabula happy for ex-Cosmos colleagues in PSL

Jomo Cosmos midfielder Tebogo Mabula says he is happy to see his former colleagues who have joined Absa Premiership teams doing well and believes they are an inspiration for them to follow in their footsteps.

Phakaaathi caught up with Mabula during the Nedbank Cup draw on Thursday night and he revealed that it motivates the players left at Ezenkosi to see the likes of Linda Mntambo, Mxolisi Macuphu and Tebogo Thlolane doing well at Premiership teams.

“I’m very happy for them. It is motivating because it shows that if you apply yourself and you work anything is possible. And seeing the guys you used to play with playing at Pirates and Chippa is really motivating and I am happy that they are doing well for themselves,” he said.

Ezenkosi qualified for the Ke Yona round of 16 after beating Baroka 1-0 last Sunday and Mabula said the win has come at the right time and is a needed boost in their camp.

“It was a difficult game. We had not won in three games. I am glad we won it because it helped with confidence. He (Jomo Sono) told us to go out there and enjoy it. There was no pressure,” he said.

Mabula said gong through to the next round is good for the team because they will be playing instead of having a break on cup weekends.

“It’s good. With the breaks the players have to keep fit. If you don’t get a good friendly game during a cup weekend than you lose out. Being in the competition helps us as we keep the momentum going.”
