Safa dismisses reports of arrest in Meyiwa’s murder case

The SA Football Association (Safa) has rubbished reports that Longwe Twala, the son of Chico Twala, was arrested in connection with the murder former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.

Longwe’s alleged arrest was trending on social media on Monday morning with many believing that Meyiwa’s former girlfriend Kelly Khumalo, her sister Zandile and their mother had fingered Longwe as the killer.

Safa communications manager Dominic Chimhavi, however, confirmed to Phakaaathi that there is no truth to these rumours.

Chimhavi says they contacted the police to verify the rumours and learnt that they were not true.

“The police say it is a lie, the rumours are false, there is no such thing,” Chimhavi told Phakaaathi.

“We contacted the police after we heard about these rumours on social media but they confirmed it was false. No one was arrested (in connection with the murder of Meyiwa).”

Longwe was previously named as Meyiwa’s killer by the infamous Twitter user Man’s not Barry Roux in 2018, but Longwe’s father Chicco rubbished the reports.
