Mhango has scored two goals in two games for the Flames, but drew blanks in Malawi’s last group match against Senegal on Tuesday.

Prior to the game, Mhango was regarded as a player to watch for the Flames after netting a brace against Zimbabwe, while Senegal, who have Liverpool FC striker Sadio Mane on their attack, was seen as someone who could do the magic for the Lions of Teranga.

But, it was Mhango who ended up being the standout between him and Mane on the day, with a lot of people on social media saying the Malawian deserves to play abroad.

Mhango has two goals in the tournament, after scoring a brace in his return to the squad against Zimbabwe after testing positive for Covid-19 and missing the first game.

“Also Gabadinho Mhango for Malawi, who plays for @orlandopirates has 2 open goals than Sadio Mane (1) from a penalty spot,” wrote @Buthelezi1785.

“What they turned off the internet in Senegal?no wonder you didn’t know our goalkeeper better than Mendy and Gabadinho is Mané’s idol,” said @Ashie_00.

“I’m happy for the Flames of Malawi. Gabadinho Mhango (11) was in charge throughout the groups stage. What a fighter and a leader!,” @ManoweM said.

“Expecting Hellings Frank Gabadinho Mhango to be playing or atleast attending trials overseas in the near future,” @aQheem hopes.

“First half Gabadinho Mhango has caused more problems than Sadio Mane!!,” @SpiweZulu.

“Gabadinho Mhango will leave Pirates after #AFCON2021,” @BaqueMashesha

Meanwhile, despite earning praises, there were also some negative comments about some of the decisions taken by the striker during the game. ·

“I’ve never in life seen a player more selfish than Gabadinho Mhango. He wanted to score a free kick from that angle???,” @Tumzaza3 expressed his views.

“Gabadinho Mhango with a cheap stunt. Then he wonders why his football won’t go anywhere Face with rolling eyes,” @Fistaz_T shared his thoughts.

After finishing third in the group with four points, Malawi have a chance to qualify for the last 16 of the tournament as one of four best third-ranked teams.
