AmaZulu give George Maluleka update after on-field collapse

Maluleka fell down in the middle of the field during their DStv Premiership match against Swallows FC.

George Maluleka gave everyone at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday a scare when he collapsed towards the end of AmaZulu FC game.

It is not clear what happened but he just fell down in the middle of the field during their DStv Premiership match against Swallows FC.

The AmaZulu midfielder was rushed to hospital immediately after the incident, leaving the other players in shock.

Maluleka’s collapse comes just weeks after Siphamandla Mtolo of Richards Bay collapsed and died at training.

But AmaZulu have revealed that he has since been released from hospital after getting medical attention.

“Thanks for your kind messages towards George Maluleka who required immediate medical attention right before the match against Swallows was about to end at Moses Mabhida.

“Mido was discharged after a number of tests were conducted by our medics,” reads the statement posted by Usuthu on their social media platforms.

Speaking to the media after the game, AmaZulu coach Romain Folz revealed that it was not the first incident on this nature in his team.

AmaZulu mentor says it needs attention

“It is usually the heart situation and I will have to check if there is a tricky side on the results,” said Folz as quoted by iDiski Times

“Yes, this is a second time as you said in the span of six months. So we need, one; to be cautious.

“Two; we need to check what is exactly happening because it is happening quite often with footballers – you saw what happened to Richards Bay player (Siphamandla Mtolo).

“So, let’s protect the man first,” added the under-fire AmaZulu mentor. Folz faced the wrath of the angry supporters at the end of the game.

A section of Usuthu supporters crowded the tunnel area calling for his sacking following a string of bad results.

The loss to fellow strugglers Swallows left them in 10th position. But they are just seven points clear of the relegation places.

AmaZulu management extended Folz’ contract for a further three years in January but results have not been forthcoming.

It is reported that the 32-year-old has lost the changeroom at Usuthu. And this is why the club released Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Keagan Buchanan last week.

They are said to have been the leaders of a silent protest by players against Folz.
