Davids says Maritzburg have put Arrows, Swallows under pressure

“Swallows players will also have to be very professional because the whole world will be watching," says Davids.

If Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids would have his way, the PSL would deploy the Hawks to watch the last round of the DStv Premiership matches at the weekend, especially those with Chippa United and Marumo Gallants.

Davids’ team’s survival in the top division depends on the results of these games after they eked out an impressive draw at Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday night.

The draw saw Maritzburg jump off the relegation places with one point separating them from Gallants and Chippa.

For Maritzburg to survive, both Chippa and Gallants need to lose their last games. Chippa will host Golden Arrows while Gallants are away at Swallows.

Davids said they have shifted the pressure to the other two teams, including Swallows and Arrows because their games will now be heavily scrutinised.

“We are not really sure if one point is enough. We saw the Polokwane City game with Pretoria Callies,” said Davids.

Davids suggests games may be sold

“We heard what coach Kwanele Kopo said and we saw everything that happened with the four goals. I am really sad for Cape Town Spurs.

“We saw AmaTuks celebrate like they are the ones who had won the league,” added Davids suggesting that there was something fishy in those results.

Kopo, who is coach at Pretoria Callies suggested that he was unhappy with the application from his players against Polokwane City and spoke to them about match fixing.

Davids also said Arrows and Swallows players will be under the same scrutiny as those of Callies, especially if they commit silly mistakes.

“We have now put the pressure over to Chippa and Marumo. And Golden Arrows… Their players are going to be under scrutiny.

“One mistake and everyone is going to be saying something. A goalkeeper mistake by Arrows and we will wonder what is going  on.

“Swallows players will also have to be very professional because the whole world will be watching. Are they going to give them the game?

“But with what coach Kwanele Kopo was insinuating, everybody in the country will be watching to see if they (Gallants) can win the proper way.

“Are Swallows going to push for the Top 8 or is someone going to slip around the box and they score.”
