Ex-Pirates star Klate announces retirement
Former Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United midfielder Daine Klate has retired from football.

The 34-year-old, who also played for Bidvest Wits and Chippa United in his glittering career, announced his retirement on his social media pages.
“I have given it a lot of thought and I think after sixteen years in the PSL I have finally decided to hang-up my boots and announce my retirement, so this right here is the end of my playing career looking forward to what the future holds for me,” said Klate in a video posted on his official twitter account.
Klate, a product of the Transnet School of Excellence, started his professional football at SuperSport in 2004.
He left SuperSport and joined Pirates in 2010. Klate was loaned back to SuperSport in 2015 and later joined Bidvest Wits in July 2015.
The Port Elizabeth-born winger was released by Wits at the end of the 2017/18 season. That’s when he moved back to PE to join Chippa.
Klate and Mamelodi Sundowns’ Hlompho Kekana hold the record for the most league title won by individual players. He and Kekana have won six league titles each.
Klate, however, holds the record for the most domestic winners medals by an individual, including six leagues and eight cups, since the inception of the PSL in 1996.
