Mosimane: Experience won it for us

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says experience helped his side beat Ajax Cape Town.

Mosimane praised the Urban Warriors for putting up a good fight against his side.

Sundowns are two point adrift of league table leaders Cape Town City, with two games in hand. The Brazilians have collected 47 points in 23 games.

“A very, very, very difficult game, a very important win for us,” he told SuperSport TV after the game.

“We struggled a little bit, they did not respect us. They pushed us in the first half, but we had experience, especially when you [saw] how we scored the goals; they pushed a high line, and we managed to get behind them.

“But I think [Hlompho] Kekana and Lucky [Mohomi] showed some leadership and experience. This game, we won it by experience. Not to say we were the better team, just experience [counted more].”

Mosimane was pleased with Percy Tau breaking his goal drought when he opened the scoring.

“You don’t give up on important players. He [Tau] is young, but he just needed that hand over his shoulder just to make him feel that he’s supported. And I told him that he must just relax, his goal will come, and the goal came for him.”
