No more ‘Mr Nice Guy’ McCarthy for City players
McCarthy felt that his players have misused his newly found calm demeanor and threatened that he will no longer be ‘Mr Nice Guy’.

Cape Town City coach, Benni McCarthy was left frustrated by how his team let slip a match they looked good to win and ended up losing 2-1 to Kaizer Chiefs in an Absa Premiership match on Tuesday night.
McCarthy felt that his players have misused his newly found calm demeanor and threatened that he will no longer be ‘Mr Nice Guy’.

“I am very disappointed with how we let this one slip. How we don’t have the maturity to think when you are on the back foot, because when you play the bigger teams, theirs is always going to be a point in the game where you have to sit back and absorb the pressure.
“You then have to be smart. But for us, smart went completely out of the window. We were clueless on what to do. We stopped playing in the second half,” he said after the match.
He said he had decided to be calmer and allow his player more freedom on the pitch but was now doubting if that was a good decision on his part.
“I’m a more calm now and allow them to be free. I’m not on their case all the time. But maybe with footballers you need to be on their case all the time…
“For the life of me, I don’t understand how footballers think, when you have joy that works, why do you want to stop the formula? I think you’d want to keep producing with the same formula.
“Damn, I can’t believe we lost. This chilled approach is going out the window. When I come back (after the international break) they must know the pitbull is back.”
