Pirates anticipating tough clash against Dondol in Cup clash

“We don’t think it is to be a piece of cake," says Riveiro.

Orlando Pirates might be in good form ahead of their Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash against Dondol Stars, but coach Jose Riveiro has warned that Bucs will not have it easy against the ABC Motsepe League side at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Dondol have proved to be a hard nut to crack in the competition, with the third-tier side having eliminated DStv Premiership sides SuperSport United and AmaZulu FC en route to the quarterfinals.

“We don’t think it is to be a piece of cake. They’ve proved against some other clubs that it was not a piece of cake. We’re prepared for a serious job,” said the Pirates mentor.

“In my personal opinion, I hope the players feel comfortable wherever we play. We have been playing decently in away games, having good performances in the PSL (Premier Soccer League) and getting good results. And we just want to continue (getting good results). We are in a good moment, we need to capitalise on this moment in our favour not thinking much about who is in front of us (opponents). We want to go all the way (to the final).”

Pirates’ run of good form lately is something really positive for the club ahead of this tricky match, especially looking at how Dondol have managed to knock-out big clubs.

However, the Bucs coach feels positive about his team and says it is not only about getting results, but also how they play, which makes him very happy.

“It’s not only about the results. I think it’s the way we’re expressing ourselves on the field and how competitive we are at this moment and what the players are doing and the atmosphere. Everything tells you we are in a good space now. The stats are excellent,” Riveiro added.
