Pirates looking to dominate Jwaneng in Orlando

“We have to show that we are a better team and that we are capable to win," says Riveiro.

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro believes dominating Jwaneng Galaxy will help them prevail in their return leg of the second preliminary round of the Caf Champions League.

Pirates host Jwaneng at the Orlando Stadium on Friday, with the hosts trailing the visitors 1-0 from the the first leg tie played in Botswana.

Riveiro wants his players to do better this time around against Jwaneng, and show that they are capable of beating them.

“We need to win the game with a 2-0 advance. That’s the target at the end of the 90 minutes. We need to dominate the game in every scenario and we need to feel that we are applying that domination and our game plan,” said the Spaniard during the team’s press-conference this week.

“We have to show that we are a better team and that we are capable to win.  There’s no time to waste. What we want is to dominate the game. And that will get us closer to getting the result we are looking for.”

The Sea Robbers will be heading into this after a stint of poor results. They lost three games in a row including their recent match against Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 semi-finals second leg.

Riveiro sees those results as a wake-up call for his team to always be on their best in each game.

“We are coming from three difficult results to accept. Fortunately, the last one, the result was enough to see us reach the final. We should not forget that Orlando Pirates is going to play in a final even though we lost the last game,” Riveiro continued.

“Sometimes those results are convenient during the process to understand that when you are not at your best and you don’t have the proper mindset, you can easily lose a game. That’s not where we want to be.”

The kick-off for the clash against Jwaneng is at 7:30pm.
