Pitso reveals his talk with Onyango after blunder

Denis Onyango’s blunder saw Mamelodi Sundowns being held to a 1-1 draw by Polokwane City in an Absa Premiership tie on Tuesday night at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The Ugandan international could not hold on to a Salulani Phiri header and ended up kicking the ball into this own net. Pitso Mosimane has come the defence of Africa’s finest shot-stopper, who was in tears when he walked off the pitch after the final whistle.

“I told him that he must remember all the games where he saved us and he must be a big man. He is bigger than that. We see these mistakes every week,” said Mosimane.

The Masandawana mentor went on to say he has a “budget” for such mistakes, as he does understand that his goalkeepers and defenders are likely to commit errors once in a while.

“You must always have a budget for one or two of these in a year and that budget you have to respect it. It happens everywhere. In ASEC Mimosas he was super and now one mistake we talk differently? No, he has saved us many times,” said the former Bafaan Bafana coach.
