Pitso rues misses chances after Sundowns draw

Pitso Mosimane had mixed feelings following Mamelodi Sundowns' goalless draw away to Ivorian side Asec Mimosas in the Caf Champions League on Tuesday.

The Masandawana mentor was not happy that his side failed to make the most of their counter-attack opportunities, but was happy they come home with a point.

They are jointly at the top of Group A with rivals Wydad Casablanca, who lead on goal difference.

“I am happy because we got to seven points and we got a point away from home.

“And not happy because we had opportunities and we suffered from finishing. We got two chances on the counter attack but we made the wrong decision.

“I asked the players why we could not make use of the opportunity on the counter attack because Asec were desperate.

“They complained about the surface of the pitch … at high speed the ball bounces.

“I think the pitch does not help Asec because Asec are technical and they pass the ball really well.”

“Jingles” said he had noticed Asec’s defensive frailties but could not capitalise. He was happy striker Salif Bagate did not feature as he was suspended.

“I have said it before … we respect Asec but knew that once or twice they make a mistake and give the ball away at the back, so we knew they sometimes have a miss-pass at the back and it is dangerous.

“But on the opposite side they are very good on set pieces and we are fortunate that their striker was suspended because if he played, they would have been stronger up front.

“We knew that we had to monitor the No 8 [Gbagnon Badie] who was playing on the right.”
