Wits declare Jantjie’s contract ‘null and void’

By Khaya Ndubane

The agent to the late Free State Stars winger Sinethemba Jantjie said Bidvest Wits had declared the player’s pre-contract with the club null and void.

“They explained to me that the contract was not active because it was set to start on July 1 and we agreed that they don’t owe us anything,” Mulovhedzi told Phakaaathi.

Mulovhedzi added that now they’re waiting for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to see if Jantjie’s family will be compensated for his death.

“I met with the PSL chairman Dr Irvin Khoza and the CEO (Mato Madlala) regarding the insurance. They said that they will send a team of investigators to the Free State and will report back to us. But they told me that should they found out that there was alcohol or speed involved, then the League will not pay out the insurance,” commented Mulovhedzi.

Jantjie died during a car accident on April 1. He was laid to rest on April 6.
