Pirates beat Chiefs to Maritzburg striker

News has reached Phakaaathi that Maritzburg United striker Evans Rusike will join Orlando Pirates in June after agreeing to a deal with the Buccaneers.

Several reports in the past have linked the Zimbabwean forward with a move to Chiefs to reunite with coach Steve Komphela, with the pair having worked together at the Team of Choice two seasons ago. The player’s price tag scared Amakhosi away, and they settled for Zambian striker Lewis Macha and Zimbabwean Michelle Katsvairo to reinforce their attack.

Phakaaathi sources say the Buccaneers met the asking price for the striker and reached an agreement with United to let Rusike finish the 2016/2017 season in the coastal town, as coach Kjell Jonevret is still assessing the players in his squad.

Evans Rusike is expected to move to the Soweto Giants at the end of the season.
