Get in shape with this former rugby player’s ‘beer belly’ workout

Everyone is bound to pick up some weight during the holidays, but that doesn’t mean that you should just let go.

It might be a little too late to get that six pack in time for the beach, but there is no reason why you can’t start working on your summer body for next December while you’re on holiday now.

Yes, it is a time to rest and relax, but exercise is not only about weight loss. It also improves your mood, boosts your energy, promotes better sleep, and probably the best benefit of all – exercising puts the spark back into your sex life.

Ricky Schroeder, a former Southern Kings rugby player, will definitely be serving looks on the beach this year.

The KFM radio presenter recently took to Instagram to give Mzansi’s men some inspiration on what they can do to minimise the effects of ‘Dezemba’ on their bellies.

You can do this upper body and abs workout at the gym, or outdoors if you are already on your long-deserved holiday.

Remember to warm up and stretch before you start your workout. You could work in a short run as a warm-up.

The workout:

  • 6 reps x 3 sets – Monkey Bar Pull Ups
  • 10 reps x 3 sets – Tricep Dips
  • 12 reps x 3 sets – Leg Raises
  • 15 reps x 3 sets – Incline Push Ups

Watch the video below to see how the exercises are done:

From his Instagram posts, we can see that Schroeder loves being active, so don’t beat yourself up if you can’t complete the full workout the first time.

The stronger you get, the more reps you will be able to perform.

So even if you start off slowly, just make sure you start.

Your body will thank you for it in the New Year, and by the time all your friends are hitting the gym after doing nothing but eat and drink all December, you will already have some muscle to show off.
