Black Coffee opens up about working with P. Diddy, beef with AKA
The DJ has provided details on the conflict that led to 'that' slap.

Nkosinathi ‘Black Coffee’ Maphumulo has finally opened up about one of the projects he has been working on, and where his beef with AKA started. In a recent interview with Phat Joe on East Coast Radio, the DJ revealed that, contrary to popular belief, the beef did not start after he commented on Meek Mill and Drake’s beef, saying SA rappers should learn from them and diss each other using music instead of Twitter.
At the time, AKA responded and told Coffee to get lost and focus on House music.
However, Black Coffee said the most important thing fans needed to know about the situation was that he was also human. He said people sometimes took advantage of the fact that he is quiet and that, as a musician, he might not respond the way a normal human being would.
“It’s very important for people to understand that in every person there’s the good and there’s also going to be the bad.”
On when their beef started, he said: “People don’t understand, AKA started, I wouldn’t remember which awards…which year it was. It was the Channel O Awards. I won an award and he tweeted ‘Give Black Coffee a hand’. You must know that, at the time, I didn’t even know the guy. So, that’s where it started for me.
“It upset me so much that the following day I looked for him, I called him … I spoke to him and I said, dude, is there a problem? Like, I don’t know you.
“And he was like, yeah, it was taken out of context, I didn’t mean it like that. And I said alright, that’s cool.
“I think two weeks later, he mentioned he was so dope that even Black Coffee clapped for him.”

Coffee further opened up about his trip to the US last year in which he posted pictures of himself hanging out with the likes of rapper P. Diddy. Rumour at the time was that Diddy was working on a dance album, something that was not true, according to Coffee.
“No, I even assumed he wanted me for a dance album, but that’s not the case. He’s worked on his last hip hop album. I finally sat down with him and he was explaining to me the vision, like the sound he was trying to get.
“He fully understands what I do but explained to me that ‘I know what you do but this is not the reason I want you here. I don’t want you for dance, I believe you can do something quite unique to this project.’
“So I’m not contributing on House music, I’m contributing on hip hop music,” he told Phat Joe.
