SCHAGEN – Mathews Phosa College is making its intentions of remaining the best private school in Mpumalanga very clear by subscribing to its motto “Excellence in education”.
The college, ranked as the top-achieving private school for many successive years, is set on the firm belief that education goes beyond academics. The class of 2013 achieved a 100 per cent pass rate. In a class of 63 pupils, 70 per cent qualified for bachelor degrees. This comes as no surprise given the fact that the environment has been designed to optimise success.
So high is the sense of responsibility instilled in the learners through the school’s holistic approach to education that a recent random drug search by the SAPS resulted in a clean bill for the college.
In a report from the Mpumalanga Department of Education, it congratulated all the teachers, the class of 2013, the school governing body and stakeholders on the outstanding matric performance. The department stated it was delighted to have a leader of the Mathews Phosa’s calibre.
On January 17, SAPS Ngodwana in conjunction with two dog handlers from the White River K9 Unit, visited the college.
The purpose was to conduct a random search. Through the coordination of a teacher at the college the search started at 12:50 and all classes, learners and hostels as well as the general staff’s residences were thoroughly searched.
Nothing illicit or suspicious was found.
