BURGERSFORT- The African National Congress Youth League (Ancyl) Tubatse subregion is not satisfied with the Greater Tubatse Municipality (GTM) and is calling for an urgent investigation within the municipality.
The organisation held a media briefing with Steelburger/Lydenburg News, citing its displeasure and calling for the dismissal of the suspended municipal manager (MM) Mr Lemon Phala, supply chain manager Osilias Mosoma and former acting chief financial officer David Mogofe, all of whom were suspended in June 2013, and were currently still serving their suspension.
“We believe these three officials are corrupt,” said chairman of the league Mr Jeffrey Mashoeu.
The league also demands suspension of the spokesman for the municipality Mr Thabiso Mokoena and the technical director Mr Selai Mathunyane. It said they had both been irregularly appointed by suspended legal officer Mr Andries Koko.
“The spokesman was involved in the shortlisting process of Koko and also the interviewing process, so how can he participate in the hiring and short-listing process of a suspended person? We want answers,” Mashoeu said.
They are also calling for the suspension of Mr Jabu Shongwe, waste manager whom they claim he is implicated in the irregular appointment of the Seleka Plant hire. Integrated Development Planning (IDP) manager Morgan Boshego is also accused by the league of approving IDPs in which the community did not participate.
Secretary of the league Mr Eddie Maile added, “We appeal to GTM and its council to verify the qualifications and performance of Section 57 employees in particular technical director Mr Selai Mathunyane, director of community services Ms Kgaki Boshego, and secretary of council Mr Lazarus Komane, who we have learnt does not qualify for the position he’s heading. We want an immediate investigation.”
The league alleged that the Department of minerals and Energy transferred more than R220 million for the electrification of several villages in Tubatse, as part of Operation Mabone, but to this day the project has not benncompleted, because of GTM’s underperformance.
“Our other concern is the disappearance of the mayoral vehicle – it’s been months since we last saw it at the municipal premises – that must be investigated,” they said.
The league is planning a massive march if these officials and not investigated and suspended.
It is not the first time the youth league has questioned the leadership qualities in GTM – on April 28, 2013, it marched to the municipality demanding that the mayor step down. It remains to be seen if their demands will be met this time around. Steelburger/Lydenburg News did not get GTM spokesman Thabiso Mokoena’s comments before going to print.
Meanwhile the youth league members are pleased with the work done by the current acting MM Ms Adelaide Monyepao and the newly seconded acting chief financial officer Mr Mpho Maepa.
“Those comrades have done the platinum city proud, they want to see development and are free of corruption,” Maile concluded.
