Two return dates fixed in poaching case

Mr André Mabunda, Mr Shakes Baloyi and Mr Lawrence Baloyi were tracked down by the SAPS and the special operations team close to a rhino that had been shot in the head.

MBOMBELA – Two return dates were announced in the poaching case against three SANParks employees who said that they had been assaulted by the police during their arrest on September 21 last year.

Messrs André Mabunda (43), Shakes Baloyi (46) and Lawrence Baloyi (42) were apprehended after they were tracked down by the Skukuza SAPS and the special operations team close to a rhino that had been shot in the head. The three accused are charged with hunting a protected species in the Kruger National Park, possession of firerams and ammunition with the intent to commit a crime, unlawful possession of ammunition, conspiracy to commit a crime and the attempted theft of rhino horn.

The magistrate, Mr André Geldenhuys announced that the accused would return to court on March 4. This postponement had further investigations as its purpose. A provisional trial date of July 1 was announced.
