Man arrested for attempted murder

The arrest followed after Mr Samuel Nkuna was shot when he was trying to save his neighbours in Skhila two weeks ago.

LYDENBURG – Local police arrested one of the intruders who shot a man in Skhila during a house robbery last Tuesday.

According to Capt Mabokalake Mashabela, communications officer at Lydenburg SAPS, the suspect had been charged with attempted murder, house robbery and possession of an unlicensed prohibited rifle.

“The man was apprehended when two suspicious-looking persons were spotted on the side of the Burgersfort Road next to Skhila, however, one fled the scene,”said Mashabela.

“When police officers approached them, they tried to run away but the officers caught up with one of them after a brief chase. They seized a rifle in his bag and a magazine with three rounds,” he explained. “After further investigations we discovered that the two were the culprits we had been looking for.”

The suspect alleged that his friend was the one who did most of the work when they went out to rob the public. “As the police, we are searching high and low for that man so that the truth may come out. We will do everything we can to find him,” Mashabela said. According to him, Nkuna is still recovering in hospital.
