KAMHLUSHWA – This happened at the intercession near the KaMhlushwa petrol station on the D797 road.

According to reports, he fled the scene on foot moments after the accident, leaving behind his passenger and three injured people who were expected to be bridesmaids at a wedding on Saturday.

It is alleged that angry community members and witnesses had assaulted the passenger before he fled.

A docket of reckless and negligent driving has been opened.

It is not clear if the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

The injured were transported to Tonga Hospital and are reportedly all making a steady recovery.

On social media, locals voiced their request for stronger law enforcemejnt on the roads over weekends.

Sidwell Sammy said, “That’s why there must always be roadblocks, especially on this KaMhlushwa to Tonga Road on weekends, because motorists don’t adhere to the speed limit and drive under the influence of alcohol.”

Another community member viewed having speed humps as the only solution to this problem.

“The only thing that causes this speeding is alcohol – speed bumps is the solution,” said Edward Nkuna on Twitter.
