Eco Club learns more survival skills

Members of Summerhill’s Eco-Adventure Club got their hands dirty during club activities on May 22.

The grade 5 to 7 pupils were taught several new knots, like the reef knot, round turn and bowline knot.

Once these were tried, tested and implemented, the pupils set off to remove alien plants from the school’s stream. They were equipped with leather gloves and slashers and eagerly traipsed around the grounds to complete their important task.

The club aims to give pupils the opportunity to learn more about nature, conservancy, to acquire survival skills and teach new awareness of important life skills.

Pupils take part in several interesting activities each term, including learning to tie the various knots, making a fire and even cooking their own food on the fire.
