GRIP reveals positive stats

A total of 32 were furthermore sentenced with life imprisonment.

MBOMBELA – Although the number of rape cases continue to raise serious concerns, the Greater Rape Intervention Programme (GRIP) recently revealed some positive statistics.

During 2014 GRIP was able to take 1 374 of its cases to the court – out of those, 134 perpetrators were found guilty and 118 of them were sentenced. A total of 32 were furthermore sentenced with life imprisonment, GRIP confirmed.

“Although our criminal justice system is trying to improve the figures in the stats, we are proud of the work that we have accomplished thus far and continue to strive for better,” GRIP added.

“We are proud to present the stats that reflect the positive change we are creating in our community. We would also like to encourage women to speak up, report violence and rape. Remember, you are not a lone and GRIP wants to help you,” the organisation concluded.
