MBOMBELA – The Hi-Tech Security team is making successful strides in curbing crime in and around the city using its CCTV monitoring system.

On Saturday morning the company’s camera-monitoring operator, Mr Leon Grobler spotted a suspect on a client’s cameras.

He was spotted in the area attempting to hide. “We immediately sent out Mr Callen Herbst who was on duty in our CCTV monitoring vehicle to investigate,” said Mr Callum MacPherson, Hi-Tech response manager.

According to MacPherson, the suspect was arrested immediately after Herbst’s arrival on the scene. He had also robbed a man in a nearby tavern earlier. MacPherson mentioned that Hi-Tech launched the CCTV control room in 2013 and was supported by the armed-response teams. Later on the CCTV response unit was established.

Hi-Tech has advised women to avoid bushy areas. This comes after the rapid-response team apprehended a suspect on Wednesday who is believed to be part of a two-man gang. He allegedly robbed a woman walking on her own to town in Piet Retief Street.

The suspect was apprehended at a building site near his workplace.

The security company urged people to walk in groups especially late at night, and always keep their valuable items out of sight.
