BURGERSFORT – Laerskool Burgersfort recently held its annual Arbor Day ceremony, which coincided with its Spring Day celebrations.

Pupils from grades one to seven attended a short, detailed information session by Gustav Mallo about how to plant, fertilise and water a tree to get the best production.

The children had an opportunity to enter a visual-arts competition on trees. A winner was chosen from each class.

Two teachers at the school, Willemien Naudé and Hendrik Manok, each planted a bougainvillea in front of the hall.

With the theme, environmental awareness in mind and with the encouragement of Damon Nel, the pupils dressed up accordingly, with appropriate slogans as well as demonstrations. With this, they set an example for the rest of the school.

Companies opened their hearts and donated 30 naartjie trees, soil and fertiliser as well as naartjies to all the pupils.

The school expresses its gratitude to Du Rio Kwekery, Indigo Fruit Farm and Naranja Boerdery.
