MALALANE – Science is a fascinating subject with many amazing things to learn and discover. To get learners interested in the subject, Horizon Academy held a Science Fair on March 3.
The main purpose of the fair was to help learners learn new interesting science and technology facts by experimenting with different materials that react in surprising ways. Lots of experiments can be done by using simple ingredients found around and in homes and learners used these everyday items to perform safe, fun and interesting experiments.
Each grade had a different topic, which they had to express in an experiment. The grade ones’ topic was how to make plastic, grade twos explored water pollution and how to purify water, grade threes answered the question of whether a raw egg could grow, while the grade four to seven classes looked at the different types of energy.
Experiments ranged from how to build a kite to a model volcano and learners stared in wonder at their fellows’ creativeness.
The experiments that impressed the teachers the most were Hooria Safraz and Talifhani Mulaudzi of grade one, Banu Dadashov of grade two, Abrina Kobe of grade three and the grade four to seven learner was Melizwe Modimoa.
