JEPPES REEF – The best performing learners, teachers and principals were celebrated during the recent annual awards ceremony for schools in the Khulangwane Circuit.
The circuit manager highlighted that there had been an improvement in the results, with the circuit in ninth position.
The 11 secondary schools, which includes Langa Secondary, achieved a 78,3 per cent matric pass rate. Of the 31 schools, 81 per cent of learners passed, with grade 10 being the weakest, and grades one, two and seven the strongest.

Their target is 95 per cent and the circuit manager thanked the schools and stakeholders for their support during the difficult financial situation.
Schools were rewarded for a variety of achievements. Mhlosheni and Intfutfuko were chosen as the best primary schools in music and Lovunywa as the best secondary school.
The best schools in sports such as soccer, netball, tennis, cross-country and athletics were also rewarded, with several reaching national level.
Each school’s best pupil, teacher, general worker and administrative worker were also rewarded.
National Teaching Awards achievers were also mentioned. Bukhosibetfu Inclusive Primary was a provincial finalist in the category for excellence in teaching special education needs and inclusive education, Lovunywa High School was a provincial finalist for excellence in teaching in mathematics, while Manzolwandle was a national finalist for excellence in secondary teaching.
During the section for matric quality results, Driekoppies High School was rewarded for getting the most bachelors’ passes and the best maths results. Joseph Matsebula High had the best science results.

The three overall best grade 12 learners were Sibusiso Nkosi of Driekoppies with six distinctions and an average of 84,3 per cent, Banele Nkalanga of Mbambiso with six distinctions and an average of 82,75 per cent, as well as Sikhulile Nkomo with four distinctions and an average of 81,87 per cent.
The overall winners were Mdzili High, Soshangane High came second and Driekoppies Secondary School was third.
